Garth Gell Farmhouse
Snowdonia National Park
Perched at the top of a steep and rocky track, over an ancient stone bridge, past a series of sheep gates, is our 200 year old farmhouse, Garth Gell.
Set in the dramatic hills of the Snowdonia National Park, overlooking the mountains of Cader Idris, Garth Gell is 4 miles from the market town of Dolgellau and 8 miles from the beaches of Barmouth. You will find yourself surrounded by colour, isolation and peace.
A magical and unique experience (although not for the faint hearted!) which we hope you will enjoy as much as we do.
A magical, unique experience
Transport yourself to this magical place with its bleating ewes, verdant mosses, running brooks and ancient woodland and back to a simple life where time seems to stand still.
The farmhouse remains off grid, with the water supply coming directly off the hills. Basic electricity for lamps and a small fridge freezer, is provided by a small array of solar panels which feed a bank of batteries, backed by a generator.
There are no mod cons here: no power shower, television, dish washer, washing machine; forget electric kettles, liquidizers, hairdryers and irons! Mobile phone reception is patchy for some. There is limited hot water that runs from the oil-fired Aga for the main bathroom and on the other side of the house, the wood burning stove needs to be lit in order to draw a bath.
The farmhouse has been very carefully renovated by London conservation architects, keeping original features and has been simply and tastefully decorated with furniture selected with care and custom printed natural fabrics dressing the windows which overlook the hills of north Wales.
